Emachines EM350 is one of the most affordable mini laptops out there costing just under 300 dollars. It comes pre-loaded with Windows XP Home, unlike Windows 7 Starter operating system that is prevalent in almost mini laptops around. To be honest, I still prefer XP over Windows 7 Starter Edition due two basic reasons: 1) I can change wallpaper in XP 2) There are no restrictions or missing features in XP compared to Starter. That said, it is still possible to load Windows 7 Starter on it, thanks to Emachines which has provided its drivers on their support site.

Asus Eee PC 1201K is the only AMD Geode powered mini laptop out there. Unlike most of the Atom powered netbooks out there, the Asus 1201K packs much more. However, I found the chip to be very poor in the power management area. This results in very poor battery life.

Asus has launched K53E, a 15.6 inch notebook in Japan for 59,800 Yen. This notebok has similar innards as the Asus 1215B E350 version whose review I posted sometime back here at slatereview. The K53E comes equipped with an AMD A50M chipset, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard disk, and a 6-cell battery which is rated to give you around 6.2 hours of runtime on a single charge.
