Windows 8 brings to us a hybrid tablet PC idea that will do full justice to the upcoming Vaio Duo 11. This Sony product was shown off at the IFA 2012 where special emphasis was thrown on the fact it functions extremely well as Ultrabook and as tablet.
It weighs just 1.3 kilo grams and is thus little heavier than Microsoft Surface. The Duo is mere 17.85mm thin.
The Vaio Duo 11 comes equipped with a 11.6 inch full HD 1920 x 1080 screen that looks absolutely gorgeous in person. To operate the tiny controls on the screen, it comes with a stylus, which looks just like any other pen. Update – Its successor Sony vaio Duo 13 is out.
Build quality is amazing and hinges felt very strong. Keyboard is similar to the one found on the Vaio P released back in 2008. It is backlit too, allowing you to type in the dark. If you want to use the Vaio in tablet mode, just push the screen forward and its smooth Surf Slider comes into action that pushes the display down making it look like a plain slate. Unlike iPad, it comes with a lot of buttons and ports onboard. You will find home button, lock keys, volume keys, 2x USB, HDMI and Ethernet ports. Performance is top notch too, thanks to the speedy Intel Core i5 3317U 1.7GHz processor or Core i7 3667U 2GHz. Test unit came with 4GB RAM (upto 8GB RAM), 128GB SSD (upto 256GB SSD) and it felt incredibly snappy.
Verdict – The Vaio Duo 11 is a unique product and will definitely make its mark in the laptop and tablet category.
